In this one-day workshop, students will expand their horizons by overcoming their fear of end-grain hollowing, learning several hollowing techniques. They will discover end-grain hollowing is a fast, fun, and efficient way to produce lathe-turned projects. The class will cover hollowing with a spindle gouge, with a hook-tool, and carbide-insert tools. Students can expect to produce two or three finished pieces during the class. A studio/materials fee of $20 is due at time of registration.

• Keith Tompkins began his woodworking career in the early 1970's as a cabinetmaker, but his work has evolved to primarily creating woodturned artistic objects. His work has been displayed in many exhibitions, and samples of his work are included in many prominent collections world-wide. Images of his turnings have been published in several books, including Wood Art Today 2" and 500 Wood Bowls, and in a number of magazine articles. He is excited about the journey his woodturning has led to; he feels the best is yet to come.

Brookfield Craft Center will provide all wood, tools, equipment and eye protection.

Students are advised to dress comfortably in closed-toe shoes and long pants. Wood shavings are bountiful in the turning studio, and most fall on the body at the chest/torso level. Wear a high neck shirt (crew neck) with sleeves that are not loose enough to catch on the lathe. We recommend bringing bottled water as well.
