Fine Art Photography Session 2: Capturing
Nov 12 2016
SP6406 Nov 12 2016 (10am-12:30pm) Saturday (River Room)
In the first session of this series, we considered the development of the skill of Seeing. In this second session, we progress to learning the capabilities that the camera offers for Capturing what the Photographer has seen. How can we use the camera to structure and simplify the scene, so that it engages the Viewer’s eye and enables the Viewer to share the Photographer’s experience of the scene? This class will consider how the elements of a camera combine with light to form a chosen image, will demonstrate how to use the many controls of a digital camera to achieve the desired image, and will also discuss how to plan a shoot. Students will also select a location for Session 3 – The Outdoor Shoot.
This is the second of six individual sessions intended for moderately skilled photographers who wish to begin to develop deeper skills in Seeing, Capturing and Rendering, primarily in landscape or outdoor photography. Attendance will be limited to six students. For this and subsequent sessions, students should bring a digital camera that they are familiar with and that has controls for aperture, shutter and ISO (don't forget to charge the battery and bring a memory card). The final session of the series also requires each student to bring a laptop computer. Each session will end with a photographic assignment to be reviewed at the following session. Additional study materials will be provided for continuing after the course. Ages 18 and over.
