SM0112 Feb 4, 2012 (12pm - 3pm) Sat afternoon (River Room, Mill Building)
Learn how to best present your art and yourself online. This informative seminar will educate you not only on why a web presence is mandatory in this age of technology, but also on using the Internet as a part of your artistic practice beyond online portfolios. Using social media, blogs, and your own website(s) as an interactive medium increases your audience exponentially and, most important, turns your creative practice into a dynamic dialog. You do not need to be techno-savvy to enroll in this seminar. This course is ideal for students considering getting their work online, or seeking advice on how to bring their presence to the next level.
Heather Lawless
Heather is the Education Director at Brookfield Craft Center. Graduating with a BA in Studio Art from Wheaton College and an MFA in Interdisciplinary Studio Art from Maine College of Art, Heather is a teacher and an artist. She straddles the line between fine art and craft as both a traditional fiber artist and a contemporary new media artist. Heather was recently an Artspace Artist in Residence at the New Haven Free Public Library. Her work has been exhibited all over New England, including at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Portland, Maine and Artspace in New Haven, Connecticut, and published in Yankee Magazine. With experience as a craft gallery manager, exhibit juror and hiring manager, Heather shares her insight with BCC students through teen outreach and professional development programs.
