FW1812 Oct 11-Nov 1, 2012 (6p-9p) 4 Thursday evenings (LTB Fiber Studio)
Do you like knitting because you can take your project on the go? Try weaving on a portable rigid heddle loom and bring your creative endeavors with you no matter how far away you roam. For beginners, this workshop will introduce weavers to using a 2-heddle loom (bring your own, or rent or purchase one from us). You will learn how to set up a loom with the warp and how to make a woven sampler of mixed textures. For students with weaving experience, you will weave a project of your own design. The workshop will examine fibers best for weaving, different weaving structures, and the elements of designing your own unique creations. Beginners studio/materials fee of $18 payable to Brookfield Craft Center is due at time of registration. Experienced weavers can come to class with looms pre-warped, and pay $18 studio/materials fee or bring your own fiber. Portable looms can be rented with an option to buy (please call us with renting inquiries). If you'd like to purchase a 20" rigid heddle loom for $135.50, or a 24" loom for $167.00, please place your order with us as soon as possible.
Christine Wilkinson
Christine received a BA Studio Arts from Smith College. Her lifelong passion for all fiber arts takes the form of weaving, stitchery, quilting and surface embellishment. Her first weaving class was at the 92nd St. Y in New York. For the last 5 years, she has studied weaving with Lucienne Coifmann at Creative Arts Workshop (CAW) in New Haven. Christine's weaving has been exhibited in student shows at CAW and is available on ETSY under her shop name, Yellow Cottage Industries. Whether weaving on a floor loom, a small rigid heddle loom, an inkle loom or a basic frame loom, Christine explores ways to use various woven structures in new ways.
