BCC welcomes master woodturner Robert Rosand to the turning studio. Students with some prior spindle turning experience will enjoy spending the day with Robert and turning candlesticks, faux candles and ice cream scoop handles. This one-day workshop will strengthen your skills in spindle work, including sharpening tools and using a roughing gouge, spindle gouge and skew chisel. Expect to complete at least one pair of matching candle sticks and one ice cream scoop. A studio/materials fee of $25 is due at time of registration.

  Robert has been turning wood ever since he dropped out of graduate school in the 70's. Robert is basically self-taught, the result of holding a book in one hand and a gouge in the other. He has taught and demonstrated his skills for a number of years at national symposia and numerous local American Association of Wood turners chapters. Robert is a past vice president and board member of the AAW.
  

Brookfield Craft Center will provide all wood, tools, equipment and eye protection, but students are welcome to bring any of their own tools and equipment. Robert Rosand will bring many of his own specialty tools and gouges for students to use.

Students are advised to dress comfortably in closed-toe shoes and long pants. Wood shavings are bountiful in the turning studio, and most fall on the body at the chest/torso level. Wear a high neck shirt (crew neck) with sleeves that are not loose enough to catch on the lathe. We recommend bringing bottled water as well.
