GF7302 Sept 10 2017 (10am-2:00pm) Sunday (Glass Studio)

When kiln casting with fiber paper, the student creates an image on the paper. Think paper dolls. The image is then cut out with scissors or Exacto knife. The image is then placed on the kiln shelf with either transparent or opal glass laid over it. The decision is made to have the image recessed on the top layer of glass or bottom layer. All this will be explained in class with examples to choose from. One application is a grandmother plate in which a child's hand is traced onto paper and then transferred to the fiber paper. The student may choose to have a flat presentation or to have the flat presentation slumped into a dish shape. Ages 16 and older. A materials fee of $33.00 will be added to the tuition.

How does color work? What makes some combinations of color more effective than others? This class will explore color principles and applications using kiln-glass techniques. The purpose is to increase the students understanding of color and how to use it in glasswork to make pieces that are more beautiful and in which color reinforces the artists intent. We will use hands on exercises to discover how the qualities of glass effect the piece being created. These will include transparency vs. opalescence, reflection, absorption and depth. It is through the class project that the student will use these principles to explore getting the most vibrant and appealing pieces possible.
