FW1012 May 3-24, 2012 (6p-9p) 4 Thursday evenings (LTB Fiber Studio)

Do you like knitting because you can take your project on the go? Try weaving on a portable rigid heddle loom and bring your creative endeavors with you no matter how far away you roam. For beginners, this workshop will introduce weavers to using a 2-heddle loom (bring your own, or rent or purchase one from us). You will learn how to set up a loom with the warp and how to make a woven sampler of mixed textures. For students with weaving experience, you will weave a project of your own design. The workshop will examine fibers best for weaving, different weaving structures, and the elements of designing your own unique creations. Beginners studio/materials fee of $18 payable to Brookfield Craft Center is due at time of registration. Experienced weavers can come to class with looms pre-warped, and pay $18 studio/materials fee or bring your own fiber. Portable looms can be rented with an option to buy (please call us with renting inquiries). If you'd like to purchase a 20" rigid heddle loom for $135.50, or a 24" loom for $167.00, please place your order with us as soon as possible.

Andrea Shedletsky
FA0112 Jun 9, 2012 (10am-2pm) Saturday (LTB Fiber Studio)

Artist Andrea Shedletsky will divulge her specialty techniques to transfer color and patterns to silk scarves in this short, fun workshop.  Bring 8 to 10 old silk ties or scarves to class (find them in your closet, or favorite thrift shop--they don't have to be in perfect condition, just with interesting colors or patterns).  With a simple, but totally engaging process, students will transfer the prints and colors from the ties to white silk scarf blanks.  During the workshop, expect to complete one to two scarves. The results are wonderfully surprising.
