Fused Glass

Brookfield Craft Center is excited to announce that upgrades to our glass studio are underway. With donor support and grant funds from the Windgate Foundation and the Ellen Knowles Harcourt Foundation, we are adding to the ventilation system, kiln space, work surfaces, hand tools and power tools. Torch classes will be held this fall with no scheduling interruptions, and fused glass, stained glass and painting on glass classes will begin in October 2011.

More fall classes are added everyday. Call or email us to add your name to our "I'm Interested" list. And ask us about an individual or small group private tutorial. Small classes and personal attention make for an enjoyable creative experience!

Fused Glass Open Studio

Intermediate (Current Students, Experienced Artists)
Prerequisite: Completion of introductory level BCC fused glass class or demonstrated knowledge of the studio/equipment

Members of Brookfield Craft Center are welcome to join the flat and warm glass Open Studio Program in the Glass Studio. (Not a Member? Click here to learn more or sign up.) BCC fused, kiln-formed and stained glass students and local skilled artists can purchase studio time as low as $6/hr to use BCC's hand and power cold working tools. The studio currently consists of cutting tools, wet ring saw, wet grinders, flex shaft and drill press. Participants are welcome to fire glass using table top kilns and "bathtub kiln" for $0.05 per square inch per firing. Open Studio sessions are monitored by a fused glass artist, are 3 hours in length, and are held Thursday evenings 6-9pm. Pay a drop-in rate at the door, or purchase 3 or more sessions on an Open Studio Card to participate in the program.

- Kiln use - $0.05/sq. inch per firing

Participants must be BCC Members, possess basic flat or warm glass skills, and have had prior instruction and experience using BCC's glass studio equipment. Only members who can exhibit sufficient skills and knowledge of equipment will be granted studio access. No refunds or credits will be offered for unused Open Studio sessions.

GF0413 July 13 &14, 2013 (Sat 10am-1pm, Sunday 10am-12pm) Saturday & Sunday (Glass Studio, Railroad Building)

Students will learn fusing techniques by creating components for jewelry and small items such as bookmarks, wine stoppers, ornaments, letter openers, jewlery components and small bowls. These are the same techniques used to make larger items like bowls etc. By starting small you can explore the medium with minimal kiln time, cost for tuition and materials. Topics will include cutting, grinding, preparing pieces for the kiln and firing. Students may choose from a variety of glass included in the materials fee (does not include dichroic), and may also wish to enhance or complete their projects by purchasing additional materials or taking the Fused Glass 101 follow up session(s). A list of tools and materials suppliers will be provided. Specialty glass, silver wire, findings and gift components will also be available for purchase from the instructor.
A studio/materials fee of $35 is due at time of registration.

Brookfield Craft Center's Sampler Workshops are designed with the beginner in mind. These short, low-cost workshops eliminate the intimidation of trying a new art medium and using a new studio. You might just find your new artistic calling, but you will never know unless you give it a try.
