Intermediate
Christine Wilkinson
FW7206 Starts May 4 2017 (4-6pm) Thursdays (LTB Studio)

The Weavers Design Study Group meets weekly for 2 hours on Thursdays from 4-6pm in the Fiber Studio. The purpose of the group is to explore weave structures, textile designs and design planning. Group members bring their ideas, questions, and new discoveries to each week’s discussions with the aim of sharing ideas and getting group input on design or technical challenges. This new study group, suitable for intermediate level weavers, will start with explorations of woven textiles to determine the pattern, sett and fiber. Then we will move to practice with drawn-down, block design and other topics that arise from the group.
Required supplies: Notebook, graph paper, colored pencils, eraser. Registration is required. Study Group sessions are purchased in 5 session blocks. Attendance does not need to be weekly and the purchased sessions can be used any time that the Study Group is meeting.

FW7203 June 6, 13, 20, 27, July 11, 18 2017 (5-8pm) 6 Tuesdays (LTB Studio)

This class offers beginning weavers and advanced beginning weavers the opportunity to learn through direct experience the basic set-up of a multi-shaft floor loom while exploring a variety of weave structures. Every student selects an individual project and works at her/his own pace. With a wide range of projects being worked on during the class, weavers learn from and get inspired by others in the group. Beginning students start with a sampler that introduces the new weaver to the steps of setting up a warp and some basic weaving methods, such as plain weave, twill weave and overshot weave. After completing the first sampler, students choose projects that match their individual interests. Possible second projects include scarves, table runners, pillow covers, shawls and fabric for garments. Class includes an additional 9 hours of open studio time, allowing students to work on their piece outside of class. A materials fee of $30.00 will be added to the tuition.
