During this class, students will learn the technique of creating a wide variety of shapes & patterns by manipulating sheet metal mounted in a pitch bowl. The weekend will cover all aspects of the process, including: selecting and/or making tools, material selection, do's and don'ts with particular materials, hammer control, heat and pitch management, and more. Students will begin the class with a discussion of the concepts of the technique, then they will make a set of small tools which will be their own. Once the tool set is ready, everyone will begin working on a design to work into the metal. Students can expect to leave this class with the tools necessary to continue to work at home or their own studio, as well as at least one finished piece.
Ages 16 and up, a materials fee of $50 will be added to the tuition.
