Demystifying Stone Settings
Nov 4 & 5, 2017
JF7401 Nov 4 & 5, 2017 (10am-5pm) Sat/Sun (Jewelry Studio)
If you would like to know more about stone setting, then this workshop is for you. We will do a quick review on basic bezel settings, including open back bezels, tube bezels, and flush-set stones on Saturday. On Sunday, we will cover prong settings for round, oval, square, trillion, and emerald-cut faceted stones. This workshop will not cover pave or illusion settings. We will work mostly in silver, but also with some gold settings if desired. Pros and cons of various gold alloys will be discussed and which are best for gemstones. Students are encouraged to bring their own stone settings projects to work on along with any stones, silver and gold they may have. A materials fee of $15 will be added to the tuition. If the student wishes to work in more expensive metals (silver and gold, settings and stones), they will be available from the instructor for an additional fee.
A silversmith since 1984, Joy has exhibited throughout the United States, Ireland and New Zealand, showcasing both jewelry and flatware designs. Joy is a native of New Hampshire.
