This workshop is for students who want to loosen up and work with less restraint.
Using personal photographs as reference students will work on several fast paintings. Guided towards discovering and trusting their own mark/painting statement and developing a critical eye. This is not a "how-to" class. You will be encouraged to experiment and embrace spontaneity. By combining fast, bold, loose strokes, students will engage in the "process" of painting in the "present" rather than concentrating on the end result. Fast paintings will be analyzed for their unique painterly style in order to transfer the best qualities to larger canvases (36"x36" or larger). In the words of the artist, KiKi Smith, "Making art is a lot about seeing what happens."
Students bring their own supplies; the instructor will provide a suggested supply list. Please bring reference material for inspiration. Ages 15 and over.

If you are looking for a technical photography course this workshop is not for you. If you are interested in learning to use your camera to expand your relationship with nature, be inspired, and help you cultivate inner peace, please read on...

Have you ever looked at the veins in the petal of a flower? Noticed the tiny worlds reflected in the drops of dew on a plant? Did you know the human eye can detect 1 million shades of blue? How many have you noticed in the sky recently? When we slow down and look, really look, we are gifted with "new eyes" with which to experience the beauty of nature at a level which most people never take the time to notice. Using the camera as a mindfulness tool we learn to ground ourselves and become more connected to nature and our own lives. The process itself is largely the purpose with the images you create an added bonus and an inspirational reminder of the value of slowing down to see.

This is a unique one of a kind two-part Workshop on utilizing Photography As a Form of Meditation with the Camera as a Mindfulness Tool. Topics covered include: 1) Theory: How can Photography Be a Form of Meditation? 2) Light, 3) Texture & Pattern, 4) Finding the Beauty Where You Are, 5) Learning to See/Look Beyond the Obvious, 6) Food as Art & Mindful Eating, 7) Guided Seated Meditation designed to enhance Sensory Awareness, 8) Guided Photo Shoot to put "Photography As Meditation" into practice. This workshop is suitable for all levels of photographic experience including those who only shoot with a smartphone or as advanced as a DSLR or large format Graflex. Both class sessions will begin at BCC with the majority of the second session taking place at a nearby nature site and the participants will need to provide their own transportation. Participants should bring their own bag lunch both days and a portable chair to the second class. Ages 16 and over, a $3 materials fee will be added to the tuition.

This is an exciting and stimulating workshop to explore design, color and painting on silk. Colors on silk are breath-taking. Design techniques are easy to apply and painting florals are perfect for this art form. Classes are taught in an open relaxed manner and geared for the beginner as well as the seasoned artist interested in exploring silk painting. I invite you to a delightful and stimulating workshop to learn an easy way to design fabric while working with others and enjoying the exploration of silk painting. We will be completing three scarves at the end of the third day. A materials fee of $65 will be added to the tuition. Ages 18 and over.
