SD8204 Apr 2, 9, 23, 30, May 7, 14, 16, 21, 2018 (1-4pm) Seven Mondays (River Room)

Students will stretch their imagination while strengthening skills through the process of painting. Various approaches to painting will be encouraged: experimentation of techniques and ideas, trial and error. Students will be challenged to see and interpret in new ways. Personal consultations in each class will cultivate students' vision. Students will gain the confidence to explore the use of color, mark making, surface quality and composition, emphasizing their own pictorial language. Explore where you are and where you wish to go. Please bring reference materials for inspiration. Students bring their own supplies; the instructor has provided a suggested supply list. Ages 14 and over.

SD8206 April 3, 10, 17, 24, May 1, 2018 (1-3pm) 4 Tuesdays (River Room)

Students will start off learning acrylic painting basics while following the instructor step by step to create a complete painting. Then students will be encouraged to work on a painting subject of their choice with guidance from the instructor.
Students will learn: brush techniques, blending, color mixing and more. Please bring these items to class: 2 - 11x14 (or larger) canvases, Liquitex acrylics "Basics" set of 6 tubes (need at least a green, yellow, red, blue, white), matte medium (optional), large palette, brushes: 1 each - large flat, large round, small round, and small flat. Ages 18 and over.

SD8205 April 3, 10, 17, 24, May 1, 2018 (10am-12pm) 4 Tuesdays (River Room)

This class is for students who have learned the basics of painting and would like to expand on their knowledge and technique. The instructor will provide demonstrations of various techniques throughout the course, giving students individual instruction of either watercolor or acrylic painting, while working on their own subject from photos. Ages 18 and over.

Students will be introduced to multiple media including watercolor, gouache, and colored pencils in a unique engaged way of teaching. With weekly creative projects, students will be encouraged to explore a wide variety of art styles and techniques; while strengthening both their artistic skills and their understanding of art. Each students will be encouraged to work at their level and stretch their imagination in a relaxed and fun environment. Students will develop an individual awareness through an in-depth exploration of value, color, form, and composition. A list of suggested supplies may be obtained from the teacher. Ages 7 and over.

Brookfield Craft Center will host a community open house on their campus located at 286 Whisconier Road in Brookfield, Connecticut. This creative event is free, open to the public and will feature demonstrations conducted by talented faculty artists working in all of the studios.
