FW8304 Sept 4, 11, 18, 25, Oct 2, 9, 2018 (5-8pm) 6 Tuesdays (LTB Studio)

Students will learn the basics of weaving on a multi-shaft loom. Beginning students will learn the fundamentals of how a loom operates and will be given the opportunity to sit at a warped loom prior to beginning their own project. From there, students will learn how to read a weaving pattern, how to prepare the warp and how to dress the loom. First-time weavers will begin by weaving a sampler to explore various twill structures. After completing a sampler, students can choose a project based on their own interests. Projects could be anything from towels, to scarves, to woven fabric for a sewing project. Class includes an additional 9 hours of open studio time, allowing students to work on their piece outside of class time. A materials fee of $30 will be added to the tuition.

Brookfield Craft Center will host a community open house on their campus located at 286 Whisconier Road in Brookfield, Connecticut. This creative event is free, open to the public and will feature demonstrations conducted by talented faculty artists working in all of the studios.

FW8403 Nov 27, Dec 4, 11, 18, 2018 (1-4pm) 4 Tuesdays (LTB Studio)

Students will learn the fundamentals of weaving on a rigid heddle lap loom. The first project will be a small scarf. Once this project is completed, we will move on to a second project, making a scarf from start to finish. Each student will learn how to plan projects, warp the loom, basic weaving techniques, and various options for how to finish a woven piece of cloth. Students can bring their own rigid heddle loom, purchase one from the instructor ($145), or rent ($35) with option to buy at the end of the workshop. Rented looms will be pre-warped by the teacher prior to the beginning of class. Beginners welcome. Ages 15 and over. A materials fee of $20.00 will be added to the tuition.
