This course is for people who have an interest in learning how to turn. Students will learn about, wood, the wood lathe, wood turning tools, and sharpening.
The focus of this class is learning simple spindle turning skills. Students will learn how to use the spindle roughing gouge, parting tool and spindle gouge to turn Bottle Stoppers, Magic Wands, and/or Meat Tenderizers out of Cherry and/or Maple wood.
Students can expect to complete at least one Bottle Stopper and one Magic Wand or Meat Tenderizer. There are no prerequisites for this class. It is open to complete beginners and beyond. Ages 16 and over, a $15 materials fee will be added to the tuition.

If you've ever wanted to learn how to use a lathe, making a wooden pen and pencil set is a great place to start. Using an off-the-shelf kit you'll learn how to make this satisfying lathe project with spectacular results. These sets make great conversation pieces and are always appreciated as gifts. Ages 16 and older. A materials fee of $30.00 will be added to the tuition.

WT8204 June 23 & 24, 2018 (10am-4:30pm) Saturday/Sunday (Turning Studio)

This class is offered free of charge to students who want to experience the fun of learning to make useful items on the wood lathe. All aspects of woodturning will be covered starting with safe work procedures, operation of the lathe, tool selection and use, basic shapes and cutting techniques, then proceeding on to final sanding and finishing. On day one students will complete several small projects such as a honey dipper, bottle stopper, bud vase while learning the fundamentals of spindle type turning. On day two students will complete a bowl that can be used for multiple purposes around the home. All materials will be provided. Ages 16 and over.

This course is for people who have an interest in learning how to turn. Students will learn about, wood, the wood lathe, wood turning tools, and sharpening.
The focus of this class is learning simple chuck turning skills. Students will learn how to use the bowl gouge, parting tool and shear scraper to turn a Plate out of Cherry wood. Students can expect to complete one plate.

Students will learn to make wooden bowls on the lathe from start to finish. Topics will include lathe operation and safety, wood preparation, safe tool handling procedures, creating the final shape, sanding and finishing. Students can expect to complete two hardwood bowls. Ages 16 and over. A materials fee of $30.00 will be added to the tuition.

WT8301 Sep 11, 18, 25, Oct 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, Nov 6, 13, 20 (No class in Thanksgiving Week) , 27, Dec 4, 2018 (9am-3:30pm) 10 sessions within 12 scheduled Tuesdays (Turning Studio)

Create functional and artistic lathe turned objects in this 10 session class. This workshop examines the evolution of turning and explores how the lathe and its tools are used today to produce art and functional products. Topics include wood selection and preparation, tool choice, use and control, spindle turning, bowl and vessel turning, hollow turning, box making, off center turning and finishing. Students of every level are welcomed and are free to explore their own interests in a small class setting. Participants may select any 10 of the 12 available dates to attend. Students supply their own wood and finishing materials or may purchase from instructor. Ages 16 and over.
